Petland's "InVEST in K9s" Fundraiser to Buy K9 Protective Vest for Second BPD Dog
A dog-show at Petland this weekend could mean a second Bellevue Police Service Dog
gets a protective vest. Of Bellevue’s three PSDs, only Spike has a bullet and stab-resistant vest,
made possible because of a previous Petland fundraiser. Proceeds from Petland’s Dog Show go to
purchase protective vests for PSDs working with metro Omaha area K9 Units. Petland expects this
weekend's event to get them close to being able to purchase a vest for second one of BPD's K9s,
either Zeke or Rex.
Petland’s Community Relations Manager Kristin Ewing said the store just wanted
to do something for the service dogs, because they saw the need. She added, "The dogs were going
into action without protective equipment. We gotta keep them protected when they don’t have it
in their budget to help them." Ewing said they’re still coming up with the final funds to get
vests for a dog in each of Douglas County’s and Papillion’s K9 Units, and then they will begin to
fund the vest for a second Bellevue dog.
Bellevue K9 Officer Bartley and
his PSD Rex will be on hand at noon to give a demonstration, the dogshow runs from 10-2. More
information can be found at the Peland website.
Petland is located at 120th and Center Street in Omaha.
