Bellevue Police Appear at Bible School Kick-off
Pastor Dan Wills of Chandler Acres Baptist Church believes in positive police
community relations. So, when he was planning his kick-off for vacation Bible school, he wanted
Bellevue’s finest there to represent. On Sunday June 3, at 7413 South 33rd Street, members of the
Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) Unit
appeared. A motorcycle officer and K9 handler educated the more than 250 children and their families.
McGruff the Crime Dog and the Department’s 8-foot-tall inflatable mascot Officer I.R.Friendly
entertained while Community Policing Coordinator Glen Truax handed out crime prevention pamphlets,
police badge stickers and Kansas City Royals baseball cards. Truax said "The citizens of Bellevue
need to remember that Chief John Stacey is extremely committed to the community oriented policing
strategy."
Pastor Wills concurred, "The Bellevue Police Officers certainly gave a positive
image to our community. Your people were just GREAT with the children, their families and my staff!"
If you have an upcoming event where you would like to receive crime prevention tips, and possibly a
visit from McGruff the Crime Dog or Officer I.R. Friendly, please contact Glen Truax at the COPPS
office in the lower level of the Southroads, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., or at
293-3086.
