BPD Police Service Dog Zeke Closer to Receiving Protective Vest
A fundraiser at Petland in Omaha on Saturday, June 9 brought the K9 Unit a bit closer to receiving a protective vest for a second dog in its team
of three. Officer Franks and PSD Spike and
Officer Bartley and PSD Rex were on hand
to demonstrate and talk to the many dog-owners. The officers and dogs performed a discretionary drug
search by hiding a cocaine scented device under a chair and commanding the dogs to find it.
Officer Bartley expressed his gratitude to Petland for its remarkable support of BPD’s K9 Unit,
"without Petland’s assistance and hard work we would not be able to raise the funds necessary to
provide the three working dogs these vests."
Because of a previous Petland fundraiser, BPD’s service dog Spike received his vest
in May. Zeke is next to get vested. The vests cost around $1200. The event was a dog-show, awarding
prizes in several amateur categories. Petland hopes the next event, a charity dog wash on June 30,
will bring in the remaining funds needed.
