K9 and SWAT Team Up for August Training
The South Metro SWAT team conducted August training south of the city in Nehawka,
Nebraska. The team was given access to the Conestoga Middle School for the entire afternoon and
evening. The point of emphasis for the day was on school shooting issues. "A building as complex
as a school always creates unique challenges in the arena of special tactics", stated Lt Stukenholtz.
An additional bonus this month was having K9 handler Heller and "Zeke" participate
with the training. K9 has always been a key support role for the SWAT team. The school shooting
training this month was able to incorporate some tactics that simply could not be done with out
"Zeke".
"We really applaud the efforts of the Plattsmouth Police Department who helped
coordinate the August training," stated Lt. Elbert. Plattsmouth Police secured the Conestoga
Middle School, the role players for the scenarios, and dinner.
