Child Car Seat Safety Event

The Safe Kids Sarpy, Cass County Chapter will be having a Child Passenger Safety Seat event at the Shadow Lake Mall, September 22nd from 9:00 to 12:30. There be Certified Child Passenger Technicians installing and inspecting child passenger seats in vehicles. There will also be fun activities for children such as a bounce house and clowns. CPS Techs will also be on hand to answer questions for parents and care givers about proper usage of car seats.

Motor vehicle crashes are the number 1 unintentional killer of children in Nebraska ages 5 to 14. BPD's Officer Reed said, "nearly all parents think they have installed and used their car seats properly". He added, "the truth is that about three-quarters of all car seats are misused in at least one way that's critical enough to compromise its effectiveness in a crash".

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2004 50% of fatally injured children were unrestrained in the motor vehicles. According to the Nebraska Department of Roads, from 1999 to 2004 there were 92 deaths and over 14,000 injuries on Nebraska roads for the age group of 0 to 14 years old.

The Shadow Lake Mall is located at US Hwy 370 and 72nd Street in Papillion.
