Sixth Week of Police/Fire Citizen's Academy
Members of the Police/Fire Citizen’s Academy got a chance to view the Omaha Police
Department’s helicopter, ABLE 1. Wednesday, October 10th was week 6 of the Academy, and all agree
the lectures are fascinating and the presenters very knowledgeable. In addition to sitting in the
cockpit of the helicopter, classmates were able to visit with the aircrew and the unit commander
Sergeant Jeff Theulen.
Earlier in the evening, K9 officers and their four-legged partners put on an
impressive demonstration. This was followed by the Southeast Metro SWAT Team. Many SWAT
tools of the trade were on display and available for classmates to handle. Thirteen class
members regularly attend, and all enjoy the mix of police demonstrations and fire equipment
and lectures. The Police/Fire Citizen’s Academy lasts for 11 weeks, and it is free of charge.
The Academy begins in September of each year.
