BPD's Crisis Negotiation Unit Trains With SWAT
During the month of October the Crisis Negotiation Unit participated in an annual
joint training session with South Metro SWAT. The Crisis
Negotiation Unit’s main objective at any incident is to successfully resolve, through negotiation
techniques, dangerous situations such as hostage takers, barricaded gunman, or suicidal subjects. Most
situations that call for Crisis Negotiations also incorporate SWAT so the two must train to work hand
in hand during these critical incidents.
The Crisis Negotiations Unit is compiled of officers of various ranks and come from
a variety of agencies. Negotiators participating in the training this month came from Bellevue, LaVista,
Papillion, Ralston, and Plattsmouth. "The mutual efforts and significant contributions of so many
agencies is a great bonus for our area", stated Lt Elbert.
