Bellevue Police Offers First "Shop With a Cop"
Twenty-eight children will have a brighter holiday season thanks to the Bellevue
Police Department and WalMart. Starting Tuesday, November 27th and running through Friday November
30th, 2007, the inaugural "Shop with a Cop" program was held at the WalMart Supercenter store at
15th and Cornhusker in Bellevue. Store manager Jim Hardy made it possible for 28 kids to spend
$50.00 each for a Christmas wish list item. "Shop with a Cop" was extremely well received by all
involved. The names of the children were provided by Bellevue Police Officers, a Bellevue Public
School official, and the Bellevue Housing Authority. Uniformed Bellevue Police Officers accompanied
the children and family members as they shopped.
"Shop with a Cop" provides an excellent opportunity for local Police to interact
with the citizens they serve. The Bellevue Police Department plans to continue this tradition next
year with the hopes that additional funding will be available: More will enjoy the spirit of giving.
