Officer Pinkerton Completes Basic Training at Law Enforcement Academy
The Bellevue Police Department’s newest officer graduated from the Nebraska Law
Enforcement Academy December 6th. Officer Pinkerton was hired in July of 2007 and entered the basic
training course at the academy in the Fall of 2007. The 14 week block of instruction is a mandatory
certification process that officers must complete to become a certified law enforcement officer in
the state of Nebraska.
Officer Pinkerton was nominated by his peers to address the audience during the
Academy's graduation on December 6, 2007. During his remarks to the audience, he expressed optimism
and eagerness to get to work as well as take on the challenges ahead. Officer Pinkerton now will
begin his field training at the Bellevue Police Department which totals another 16 weeks of training
before he enters a solo role. The field training is usually the most difficult part of an officer
recruit’s training as each recruit is graded every day in 31 different categories by their training
officer. Lt Mark Elbert, a command officer who oversees BPD’s training program, stated, "The field
training is meticulous and can be very stressful especially if the recruit has had a bad day." He
also added, "they have a task list that they go through but they’re at the mercy of the call that
comes in and sometimes they’re inundated, and sometimes it comes at a nice pace."
