BPD Provides Gun Locks For Gun Owners
The Bellevue Police Department has given away thousands of gun locks over the past
several years. But recent shooting incidents in the area, have placed renewed interest in the locks.
The locks are available free, just for the asking.
Absent keeping guns in a locked safe, gun locks are the best safety measure,
according to Bellevue Police Officer Wiech. He said, "locks for guns are the quickest and easiest
way to keep guns safe," and added "gun owners should always keep ammo and any keys to safety devices
in a separate place." Wiech also advised to treat all guns as if they are loaded and to never point a
gun at anything you don’t intend to fire at.
The gun locks work by preventing bullets from entering the gun’s chamber. They can
be picked up from BPD, LaVista PD, Papillion PD, Gretna City Hall, Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office,
The Sarpy/Cass Department of Health and Wellness, and the Cass County Law Enforcement Center.
