Two Recruits Join Bellevue Police Force
The Bellevue Police Department is happy to introduce its two newest police recruits.
Officer Corrigan (left) and Officer Piles were hired this month and have begun their orientation
training. Training coordinator Officer Pleiss is conducting a 10-week orientation with the two new
recruits to prepare them for their basic training session at the Nebraska Law Enforcement Academy
in Grand Island beginning in May.
Officer Pleiss said, "The overall goal of the orientation training is to get them
familiar with the agency but also to prepare them the best we can so their experience at the basic
training session does not overwhelm them". As part of the orientation both recruits will be certified
in firearms, CPR, emergency vehicle operations, and defensive tactics.
The officer recruits will then attend a 14-week basic training course at the Nebraska Law Enforcement Academy, a mandatory process to become certified as a police officer in the state of Nebraska. After the certification process at the Academy, the officers undergo 16 weeks of field training with a Bellevue Police Field Training Officer before entering a solo role.
