BPD FBI Academy Graduates Retrain
BPD’s five FBI Academy graduates have completed their mandatory, yearly retraining. Chief Stacey,
Captain Evers and Lieutenants Elbert, Monnier and McClintick were in Kearney, Nebraska from April 9th through
11th.
All five senior officers agreed the highlight of the event was a presentation made by 86-year-old
Lynn "Buck" Compton, one of the WWII heroes made famous in the book Band of Brothers, by Stephen
Ambrose. After the war, Compton went to law school and became a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department.
He then joined the District Attorney’s office where, during his tenure, he successfully acted as the lead
prosecutor of Sirhan Sirhan for the murder of Robert F. Kennedy.
Compton spoke to the FBI Academy graduates
about his experience as a police officer, prosecutor and judge. The officers felt honored to have had the
opportunity to hear him speak. Lt Monnier added that, "he is a staunch supporter of law enforcement and the
incredibly important role that officers play in keeping the peace in a world full of conflict and strife."
A second highlight of the event was a presentation by Rebecca Monnier, 16, of Bellevue. Monnier
was the Nebraska youth representative at the FBI Youth Leadership Program last summer. She told the
officers about her experience. Rebecca is the daughter of Bellevue Police Lieutenant Ed and Patrice Monnier.
