K9 Officer Visits Avery Elementary Kids Club
Recently, fifteen Avery Elementary School students were visited by a four-legged crime
fighter, and his human partner, Officer Bartley. The children were attending K-Kids Club, an after-school
program sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Bellevue. The Kiwanis Club of Bellevue was formed more than twenty
years ago and has thirty-eight members. K-Kids Club was held in the Avery School library where K9 Officer
Bartley spoke about the unique qualities possessed by his canine partner Rex.
Kiwanis organizer Don Mayovski and Avery Elementary School’s Faculty Adviser Nancy A. Nielsen watched as every
student who asked got an opportunity to pet Rex. Community Policing Coordinator Glen Truax said, "The Bellevue
Police Department supports any activity that helps children see the Police as their friend and helper." Mr.
Truax gave all attendees assorted fun and educational police-related items.
