Chief Stacey Pitches the Royals
Law Enforcement Memorial Week took place around the country during the week of May 4th. Locally,
the week culminated in Law Enforcement Appreciation Night at Rosenblatt Stadium on May 9th. Prior to the Royals
baseball game, local law enforcement agencies, including BPD, were on hand to display their many transportation
vehicles. The display included helicopters, motorcycles, boats, vans and even the Omaha Police Department’s horse
teams.
The Metro Law Enforcement Honor Guard took part in a flag ceremony prior to the game. Bellevue
Police Officers Abbott and Howell are members of the Metro Honor Guard. To honor local law enforcement, the game’s
opening pitch was thrown by BPD’s Chief John Stacey. Chief Stacey commented that being the Chief of Police has its
positives and negatives, but that throwing the first pitch at a Royals game was definitely on the high side. He
added, "I was honored to be asked to participate in such a way and was even more thrilled that my pitch made it
across home plate."
