College World Series Runs Safely and Smoothly
Some people guage the success of the College World Series on who won, or number of dollars
generated for the Omaha Metro area, or other measures. For the police officers who direct traffic for
the tens of thousands of visitors to the games, success equates to safety. The Bellevue Police Motor Unit
works the games each year to assist OPD with traffic.
Officer Reed is one of five officers who put in 10-12 hours for every 4-hour game. He said
there were no major car accidents and no pedestrians injured and said most people for the most part
were well-behaved, "it went very well, the crowds were under control. Most people were there just to
have a good time."
This is his third year working the CWS and while he says it's stressful, it's also fun. Despite the
long hours, he enjoys the experience. He likes meeting people from around the country and seeing them
experience some of the way of life in the heartland.
