Detective Simones Is Officer of the Quarter
Detective Simones has been named Bellevue Police Department's "Officer of the Quarter"
for the second quarter of the year. Four times each year the department selects one officer who has
demonstrated performance above and beyond that which is routinely expected. Officers are nominated by
their supervisor or a commanding officer. Detective Simones was nominated by his commanding officer, Lieutenant
Bob Wood. Lt Wood is also the commander of the
Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
Detective Simones was selected due to his thorough investigative work which lead
to the federal indictment of 21 suspects for conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine. Simones
worked with the U.S. Attorney’s Office and testified in front of a federal grand jury.
Detective Simones' job is to investigate narcotics cases. In this case, however, the Excellence in
Law Enforcement committee determined that he performed beyond expectations. His
investigation of just one suspicious purchase of pseudoephedrine lead to the arrest and indictment of 21
people on federal charges.
Lt Wood called Simones a good detective and said it's typical of him to put the extra effort into
these kinds of cases. He added, "Detective Simones, through his aggressive investigative techniques
and dedication to his job, turned one suspicious purchase of pseudoephedrine into a large conspiracy
case resulting in the arrest of twenty-one suspects." Full details about Simones'
work in this case are available on this website in the Awards pages. Please click
"OTQ". Detective Simones was named Officer of the Quarter three times before,
once in 2000, in 2002, and again
in 2003.
Detectives Stuck and Jashinske received honorable mentions for the award.
This website includes more information about Officers of the Quarter going back to 2000 as well as
