Bellevue Police Officer Banks Honored by BPS as "Champion for Children"
BPD School Resource Officer Banks was this year’s first recipient of the "Champion
for Children" award from Bellevue Public Schools. The announcement was made at a pep rally to kick
off the school year at Bellevue East High School.
BPS Superintendent John Deegan surprised Officer Banks with the announcement and
called him an inspiration to students. Banks has been a School Resource Officer (SRO) at Bellevue
East for the past two years and a member of the Bellevue Police Department since 2004. BPD has an
officer assigned as a School Resource Officer at every middle and
high school in the city.
Nominations for the award come from students, staff and patrons. It is given to
individuals who do more than their job, but also contribute positively to the lives of students.
Bellevue East’s Dean of Students, Greg Lamberty said he is very impressed with Officer Banks' work,
"his knowledge, dedication, sense of humor and ability to relate to the kids makes working with
Officer Banks a privilege". Chief John Stacey, Lieutenant Bill McClintick and Officer Banks’ mom
were on hand to see him receive the award.
