BPD Citizen Academy Class of 2008 Graduates
The Bellevue Police Department announces the graduates of the Citizen Academy class
of 2008. They are Bellevue citizens Mike Horak, Laura Horak, Joe Hayes, Dee Hanson, Heather Jenneman,
Debra Wilcox and Joe Gastineau.
After 11 weeks of training, the participants graduated and received a certificate of
completion and a Bellevue Police challenge coin, both were presented by Chief John Stacey at a ceremony on November
13th. In attendance were Captain Herb Evers, Uniformed Patrol Bureau Commander, and Sgt. Larry
Lampman, Community Policing Unit Supervisor. The participants received hands-on education about the
inner workings of the police department from the actual officers who work in each bureau. Weekly topic
discussion and presentations included the K9 unit, criminal investigations, narcotics, road patrol,
and SWAT.
This year’s academy participants agreed on the importance of community involvement
and the benefits of the Citizens Academy program. According to participant Deb Wilcox, "It’s amazing
what goes on behind the scenes to keep our community safe." Bellevue citizen Laura Horak added, "every
citizen should attend this class."
The 2009 Citizens Police Academy will be in the fall of 2009 and any person who is
served by Bellevue Police is welcome to apply to attend. Please contact Officer Reed at 402-293-3086
