Bellevue Police Enforce "Click It or Ticket"
The Bellevue Police Department is participating in the national "Click It or Ticket"
campaign over the Thanksgiving holiday week from November 24th through 30th. A grant from the the
Nebraska Office of Highway Safety has made it possible for BPD to allocate an additional 140 patrol
hours during the week to the effort.
Currently the Nebraska law requires the front seat passenger and driver be buckled.
Nebraska law also requires that all children under 6 years old be restrained in a properly installed
and federally approved child passenger restraint. BPD's Sergeant Larry Lampman explained that the
Click It or Ticket campaign is designed to crack down on drivers and passengers riding unrestrained.
He added, "This effort also allows officers to educate the public on the importance of vehicle
restraints for all persons inside a vehicle. The goal is to educate the public and save as many lives
as possible."
Bellevue PD is one of 26 police departments and 23 County Sheriff Departments in
Nebraska which will be enforcing seatbelt use during Thanksgiving week. The statewide
safety belt use is currently at an all-time high at 83%, and child restraint use rates have reached
all-time highs of 97%.
