Lieutenant Steve Hatfield

Lieutenant Steve Hatfield is commander of the Training Unit. He oversees all aspects of departmental training for both new and current officers. Lt Hatfield works closely with the field training program coordinators to identify recruit training needs and develop new programs. He works in conjunction with the Bureau Commanders regarding all aspects of department training and works with the Team level Commanders to streamline department training, ensuring uniformity department-wide. Lt Hatfield also assists the PSO with the hiring process and coordinates initial recruit training as well as pre-FTO training. Additionally, he works with the Staff Inspector and Team Commanders to ensure uniform compliance with policy, and consistent application of policy-related training.

He has served with the Bellevue Police Department since 1994. He was promoted from Officer to Sergeant in 2003, and from Sergeant to Lieutenant in 2011. During his time as an officer he worked road patrol, bike patrol, criminal investigations, and as a school resource officer. He served 13 years on the South Metro SWAT team both as a team leader and as a sniper, and is a certified firearms instructor. As a Sergeant he supervised the "C" Team night shift, as well as the General Investigations Unit, before moving to the training unit.

Prior to joining the Bellevue Police Department, Lt Hatfield worked as a deputy with the Webster County Sheriff's Department for three years. He has an AAS degree in Mechanical Drafting and a BS degree in Criminal Justice Administration.
