Bellevue PD's PatchThe current shoulder patches worn by Bellevue Police Officers show a F-15 fighter in front of an arrowhead. The arrowhead represents Bellevue's past, a time when the city served as a fur trading post and an Indian agency. The Omahas, Otoes and Pawnee tribes came here to trade with early American settlers. Bellevue was the stopping place of the early adventurers, trappers, travelers, missionaries and soldiers who came to this region. The fighter represents not only Bellevue's future, but also Bellevue's relationship with the military, a relationship which began back in February of 1890 with the building of Fort Crook. This fort later evolved into Offutt Air Force Base and was the home of the Martin Bomber Plant during World War II. After World War II, Offutt Air Force Base became the headquarters of the Strategic Air Command (SAC) which has since developed into the United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM). The City of Bellevue recognizes that its history has evolved from "Arrows to Aerospace." Because of this, the Bellevue Police Department has redesigned its shoulder patches to reflect this evolution. The Bellevue Police Department does not sell or distribute its patches. |
