Home > Bureaus > Criminal Investigations Bureau > Special Investigations Unit Special Investigations UnitThe Special Investigations Unit is staffed by a lieutenant, a sergeant and five detectives. Detectives assigned to the Special Investigations Unit investigate drug related offenses, gang activity, weapons offenses as well as covert surveillance. They also provide information and manpower assistance to other local and federal law enforcement agencies. The unit’s main emphasis is on the investigation of drug crimes, since there is a connection between drug abuse and many other crimes. Property and Evidence UnitThe Special Investigations Unit lieutenant also supervises a civilian crime analyst and the property and evidence unit which includes three fulltime civilian employees. The Property and Evidence Unit is responsible for the daily care and control of all property and evidence that comes into the custody of the Bellevue Police Department. The employees who work the unit are the department's point of contact with the Nebraska State Patrol in the usage of the National Law Enforcement Teletype System. They assist the Criminal Investigations Bureau with the processing of crime scenes and collecting evidence during search warrants. In 2007, the unit processed over 1,800 items per month. |
