Home > Community Oriented Policing Community Oriented PolicingPrior to the mid 1980s, the Bellevue Police Department, like many American police forces addressed crime through what is known as the professional model. Police officers patrolled their districts and looked for obvious crimes in progress. Often they were sent to the scene of a crime after the victim had called Presently, victims still contact 9-1-1 or a non-emergency line to report crime, but now police forces follow a policing strategy known as community policing. Officers have more face-to-face interactions with the community they serve. Under the leadership of Chief John Stacey, officers and support staff work to solve problems before they rise to the level of a call for police service. Through comprehensive crime analysis, special enforcement operations, and public education, such as Neighborhood Watch, the Bellevue Police Department provides the highest quality of police services. The Bellevue Police Department’s vision statement explains the commitment:
To enhance the quality of life for all who are a part
of this community, using courtesy and service as the foundation for every decision made and
action taken.
