The Bellevue Police Department has an educational police ride-along program for the purpose of acquainting the general public and students involved in law enforcement programs with the nature and difficulties of a police officer's job. Civilians may ride with a patrol officer with the permission of the shift supervisor and will be assigned at the discretion of the shift supervisor unless a specific assignment is designated by a Command Staff officer. Under normal circumstances, a ride-along will be no longer than four (4) hours in length, but may be extended at a supervisor's discretion. All civilian riders must sign an indemnity agreement prior to riding in any police vehicle. Any civilian rider under the age of 18 must have a signed indemnity agreement by the rider and his or her parent or legal guardian and be pre-approved by the Bureau Commander. Riders must also agree to follow a published set of guidelines while they are participating in the program. If you are interested in finding out more about the ride-along program, either stop by the main station located at 2207 Washington Street, or call 293-3100. | Sergeant Joe Milos | |
