Lieutenant Kurt Strachota, Officer of the Second Quarter

The Excellence in Law Enforcement Committee has selected Lieutenant Kurt Strachota as the officer of the second quarter of 2000.

His selection was based on his heroic actions which directly led to saving the life of a heart attack victim on May 5, 2000. According to information provided by Deputy Chief Stacey, Lieutenant Strachota was at the City Maintenance Facility when a rescue call of a man down at 2007 Betz Road was dispatched. Not having a police vehicle available, Lieutenant Strachota borrowed a city truck and quickly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, he began life saving measures, including defibrilation, on the victim who had no pulse and was not breathing. A pulse was restored to the victim, and he was transported to the hospital, where he has since recovered.

Those officers receiving honorable mention were Officers Legband, Brazda, and Bailey.

Officer Legband was recognized for his part in helping solve a robbery at the Wonder Hostess Store. He was also noted for his overall hard work, great attitude, and his willingness to assist road officers at any time of the day or night.

Officer Brazda was singled out for his high productivity, including the arrest of a suspect in a stolen car while on bike patrol.

Officer Bailey was recognized for his assistance to the FBI in apprehending a federal fugitive. He was also commended for his excellent investigative work on a robbery case at the Bag N Save Store.
