Officer Simones, Officer of the Fourth Quarter

The Excellence in Law Enforcement Committee has selected Detective Simones as the officer of the fourth quarter of 2000. Detective Simones was nominated by his supervisor, Sergeant Bob Wood, who advised that Det Simones has gone above and beyond what is expected of him. Over the last several months, the number of arrests, search warrants, and cases involving narcotics activity have risen dramatically, and many of these cases have been cleared by Det Simones.

Over the last quarter, Det Simones has taken a very proactive approach to his job, voluntarily flexing his hours to do surveillance and other tasks. He has written several search warrants based on his investigations. He has never hesitated to come out in the middle of the night to assist anyone requiring his help and expertise. In addition, he is currently assisting the Plattsmouth Police Department by training their new narcotics detective.

One example of Det Simones’ work was the arrest of a suspect after the service of a search warrant at his residence. Det Simones conducted surveillance and completed other investigative activities centered on the suspect. He also conducted a knock and talk with the suspect. After further surveillance was conducted, a search warrant was obtained. During the search, three pounds of marijuana and $840 cash were seized. It was also determined that this suspect had been a large supplier for several other street level dealers in the Bellevue area. Det Simones’ supervisor advised that this case typifies how Det Simones performs his duties as narcotics investigator.
