During the past quarter, Officer Jashinske was involved in a vehicle pursuit and a foot pursuit, resulting in the arrest of the offenders. In the first incident, Officer Jashinske made a traffic stop of two suspects who were acting suspicious and driving erratically in the area of 29th and Washington St. As Officer Jashinske was speaking with the occupants, the driver suddenly put his vehicle in reverse and rammed Jashinske’s cruiser. The suspect then sped forward, almost striking Officer Jashinske. Officer Jashinske returned to his cruiser and pursued the suspects until they lost control and drove into an unpicked cornfield. Officer Jashinske then assisted other arriving units in setting up a perimeter, and both suspects were arrested and charged with numerous felonies. In the second incident, Officer Jashinske was investigating a call of a suspicious person looking into vehicles in the Brent Village Parking Lot. After finding no one in the area, Jashinske began checking vehicles parked in the lot. He then located an unlocked vehicle with the keys in the ignition with several car stereo items lying in the vehicle. The vehicle ended up belonging to the suspect and the stereo items had been stolen. Officer Jashinske then made contact with two persons who were walking through the lot. As Jashinske was doing a routine check on the suspects, one of them fled on foot. Officer Jashinske chased the suspect on foot, catching him about a block away. The department also received a letter of appreciation from a community group, thanking Officer Jashinske for speaking to a group of children on safety. This was done on his own time. Officer Jashinske has since volunteered to speak to other similar groups. Finally, the committee also took into account Officer Jashinske’s never-complaining work ethic, his pleasant demeanor and his quality work product. Honorable Mentions
