Officer McAlpin, Officer of the First Quarter

The Excellence in Law Enforcement Committee has selected Officer McAlpin as the officer of the first quarter of 2004. Officer McAlpin was nominated by his supervisor, Sergeant Hatfield. He was selected by the committee based on his outstanding police work during the past three months, as cited by his supervisor.

January 11, 2004: Officer McAlpin made a routine traffic stop of a vehicle for an equipment violation. Based on his keen observations and suspicions, he asked to search the vehicle and occupants and wound up making an arrest for methamphetamine. This in turn resulted in a confidential informant who made a case for the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) that ultimately led to the SWAT Team serving a no-knock drug search warrant at a residence in Bellevue.

February 09, 2004: Officer McAlpin responded to a suspicious vehicle call that eventually resulted in a vehicle stop. Officer McAlpin used outstanding interview skills and eventually got one of the suspects to confess to burglarizing a nearby business. Over $20,000 in stolen property was recovered.

February 21, 2004: Officer McAlpin was sent to a loud music/drug smell call at the Pheasant Ridge Apartments. He correctly assessed the situation and got consent to search the apartment. During his search, he located a marijuana sales/growth operation and obtained a confession. There was a large amount of evidence to be collected and logged. Officer McAlpin did an outstanding job of staying organized and wrote an extremely detailed affidavit.

March 10, 2004: Officer McAlpin stopped two different vehicles for minor traffic violations. Following his suspicions, he used good interview skills and wound up arresting 8 people out of these two vehicles for a variety of felony and misdemeanor charges including methamphetamine possession.

March 19, 2004: Officer McAlpin located an minor in possession at an apartment complex. While there, he saw evidence of possible marijuana use. He again got consent to search the apartment and was able to locate a large quantity of marijuana (approx. half a pound) along with packaging and sales supplies all laid out ready to do business. This resulted in 3 felony drug arrests and the seizure of a large quantity of marijuana.
