Officer Larson, Officer of the Third Quarter

The Excellence in Law Enforcement Committee has selected Officer Larson as the officer of the third quarter of 2004. Officer Larson was nominated by his supervisor, Sergeant Hatfield, for his excellent follow-up on his cases and his initiative.

In August, Officer Larson worked a complicated case of a 1st degree sexual assault that started over the Internet. The victim was a 15 year-old girl and the suspect was a 39 year-old man. Officer Larson worked the case to completion, followed up on all leads, and eventually arrested the suspect.

In September, Officer Larson assisted with a sexual assault case and met with the victim at Midlands Hospital. It was decided to take the victim to Methodist Hospital to be examined by the Sexual Assault Response Team. Even though he was due to go off duty, Officer Larson stayed with the victim while at the new hospital to lessen the number of officers with whom the victim had to deal. He received the evidence from the staff and continued to support the victim.

Also in September, Officer Larson was working off-duty uniformed security at Walmart when he noticed two subjects purchasing items commonly used in the manufacture of methamphetamine. He followed the suspects outside, got a license plate number, and put out a broadcast of the suspects and vehicle. The car was located and stopped by Officer Page. One occupant had a warrant, and a search incident to arrest recovered meth and a mobile meth lab.
