Officer Abbott, Officer of the Third Quarter

The Excellence in Law Enforcement Committee has selected Officer Abbott as the officer of the third quarter of 2005. Officer Abbott was selected for his performance in two possible life saving incidents which occurred during this quarter.

The first incident involved an intoxicated, despondent person who was threatening to jump off the Bellevue Bridge. At one point, the subject was straddling the railing of the bridge. Officer Abbott and his back up officer, Officer Grubb, tried to convince the person to step away from the edge. The Officers were then able to grab him and pull him to safety, preventing him from possibly jumping or falling off the bridge.

The second incident involved Officer Abbott’s quick and decisive actions during an incident in which a fellow officer was being drug by a vehicle. The committee members believed that Officer Abbott’s quick actions possibly prevented the other officer from being killed or more seriously injured.

Honorable Mentions
2005 Officer of the Third Quarter

Those officers receiving honorable mention were Officers Reed, Gallo and Stuck.

Officer Reed was nominated by his supervisor and selected by the committee for his investigation on a case that resulted in the arrest of a suspect for shooting out several vehicle windows in the city. He was also recognized for an outstanding investigation and excellent report on a forgery case. Officer Reed’s supervisor also noted his positive image and attitude, as well as his collateral duties which includes his CPR instruction and his work as a Total Station Member.

Officer Gallo was also nominated by his supervisor. He was selected for his excellent work on several high priority cases. One involved the recovery of a $45,000 ring and the arrest of a suspect. Another involved an excellent investigation of a forgery case spanning several jurisdictions, which Officer Gallo was able to make an arrest on. Finally, Detective Gallo worked very hard on an adult abuse case, again closing the case with an arrest and thus protecting the victim from further abuse.

Officer Stuck was selected for what his supervisor described as outstanding work on gathering all types of gang and drug information.
