Officer Bees, 2003 Officer of the Year

Officer Bees was selected as the 2003 Officer of the Year because of numerous accomplishments and his oustanding qualities as a Bellevue Police Officer. Officer Bees had also been named Officer of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2003.

While off-duty in April of 2003, Officer Bees identified a suspect in an automobile theft. His identification of the suspect lead to the arrest of the suspect and recovery of the vehicle. In May, during a self-initiated traffic stop, Officer Bees discovered over 1/2 pound of methamphetamine hidden inside a plaster of paris kit in the vehicle, resulting in the arrest of two suspects. In July, during another self-initiated traffic stop, he discovered and seized a 3/4 pound bag of marijuana, resulting in felony drug charges of the driver.

Later that year, in December, he spotted a stolen vehicle which had been pursued and lost by Omaha Police. Officer Bees pursued the vehicle and found it abandoned a short time later. He then located and arrested the suspect on foot about a block away. Not only was the vehicle stolen but inside the vehicle were several burglary tools including bolt cutters, walkie talkies, and a stun gun.

Officer Bees was also commended during the year for aggressive DWI enforcement, and for his work as a field training officer. He trained several new recruits in a row without a break for many months. He gave every recruit 100% of his effort.

Additionally, Officer Bees served as a drug recognition expert, bike patrol officer and as a member of the South Metro SWAT Team.

Officer Bees also represents the department well by professionalism and courtesy when dealing with the public. He rarely misses a day of work and his written reports are of high quality. Officer Bees also stays in excellent physical condition, routinely finishing at or near the top within the department, during the yearly fitness test.
