Home > Awards > Officer of the Year > Crespo, 2000 Detective Crespo, 2000 Officer of the YearDetective Crespo was selected as the 2000 Officer of the Year because of his outstanding work in investigations throughout the year. His supervisor reported that Crespo cleared 150 of the 190 cases he was assigned, which resulted in 72 arrests during the year. Because of his diligence he bacame known as the "go to guy" for cases that needed immediate attention or were of high priority. Crespo's supervisor called attention to his outstanding work ethic, his upbeat attitude and his tenacity to get things done. Detective Crespo's follow-through allowed him to apprehend a particularly evasive suspect in an auto theft case from the previous year. Subsequently, Crespo was instrumental in drafting a search warrant that lead to the successful search of a van that had been involved in a major theft at a department store. Several items of high value were recovered and the suspect was later apprehended. The suspect had been involved in similar crimes in Omaha and Iowa and had an extensive criminal history including homicide. Detective Crespo's hard work lead to several arrests in a complicated and lengthy sexual assault case of three teenage girls. the male suspects eventually confessed. Crespo played an integral role in the arrest of a suspect who had assaulted another officer during an investigation of neglect. An altercation took place between the suspect and the investigating officers. Crespo's use of appropriate force and technique ended the altercation and prevented injury to his fellow officer. Bellevue East High School expressed their gratitude to Detective Crespo for a presentation he made at the high school regarding his use of the Spanish language in his work as a police officer. Crespo's excellent crime scene investigative skills allowed for the collection of an imcriminating foot print at the robbery of Great Western Bank. The footprint was turned over to the FBI and was used to convict the suspects in the robbery.
