Home > Awards > Officer of the Year > Kessler, 2002 Officer Kessler, 2002 Officer of the YearOfficer Kessler was selected as the 2002 Officer of the Year because of her dedication and hard work during the year. Officer Kessler had been selected as the Officer of the Quarter for both the first and fourth quarters of 2002. Officer Kessler received several formal commendations during 2002. One of the commendations involved her self-initiated involvement in an attempted abduction case that happened during the shift prior to her own. Officer Kessler searched area motels and located a vehicle matching the suspect's. She found the suspect and subsequently spent several hours investigating. She conducted a thorough search of the suspect's motel room and vehicle. She reinterviewed the victim and obtained a written statement from the suspect. Officer Kessler then wrote a detailed twenty-four page report of her investigation. Because of her initiative and thorough investigation, the suspect was arrested and charged with first degree false imprisonment. A second commendation came that year when Officer Kessler conducted another outstanding investigation. This time, Officer Kessler was credited with solving an on-going domestic violence situation. Her persistence and thorough police work lead to an eventual arrest. In addition to Officer Kessler's excellent investigative skill, she was also recognized for her work as a Field Training Officer. Officer Kessler possesses the ability to produce high quality police reports with a great deal of detail. Furthermore, as an FTO, she is outstanding in her ability to impart that skill to the recruits she is training. Officer Kessler works tirelessly and has been recognized by her supervisor to take on more than her fair share of the workload, on a regular basis. She is also an exemplary example of a community oriented police officer. Her active listening skills and compassion for citizens in her patrol district has earned her the respect of the citizens with whom she interacts.
