Officer McAlpin, 2004 Officer of the Year

Officer McAlpin was selected as the 2004 Officer of the Year because of four commendations he earned during the first quarter of 2004, earning him the Officer of the Quarter award for the first quarter of 2004. He then went on to earn three more commendations to warrant his selection as Officer of the Year.

In January Officer McAlpin turned a regular vehicle stop into a felony drug arrest. After noticing that the passenger was acting abnormally, he gained a consent search and made a drug arrest. Drugs, cash and stolen guns were recovered.

Then in early February, Officer McAlpin’s close observation during a suspiciously parked vehicle call, lead to arrests for a storage shed burglary of about $20,000 worth of property.

Later in February, Officer Mcalpin was dispatched to an apartment for a complaint of loud noise which resulted in discovery of marijuana growth and sales.

In March, his excellent interview skills following stops for minor traffic violations lead to the arrest of eight people for misdemeanor and felony charges including possession of methamphetamine.

Later in the year, Officer McAlpin earned three more commendations. In August, his good observation skills of a crime in progress lead to the apprehension of one individual. During a routine traffic stop in October, he observed marijuana and related supplies in the vehicle. The suspect later became a confidential informant. In November, after noticing a suspicious vehicle pattern in a neighborhood with a drug history, Officer McAlpin conducted traffic stops which lead to several felony arrests and drug seizures.
